The Case of the Whoreable Affair
Under normal circumstances, I don’t let people like Anne Coulter, Bill O’Reilly or Rush Limbaugh bother me in the same way I’m not particularly annoyed when say, a crazed homeless man calls me a FBI informant zombie whore. One must consider the source before activating angry jet rockets and most days I consider being accused of being a zombie hooker a mighty compliment. Though now and then, I’m compelled to smash my radio with a mallet.
Imagine my shock to learn CNN had video just in of Mr. Limbaugh doing a rant on Obama wherein he makes the following statement:
“I hope he fails.”
I’ve taken the bullet for you dear readers and watched it fully to spare you the migraine but if you think I’ve made it up or embellished in any way, here's the transcript:

I’ll further spare you 15,000 words on my very low opinion of Mr. Limbaugh and how offended I am that any citizen would sincerely hope Obama flops, never mind one with a radio show. To pray Obama fails is like hoping our bus driver will crash into a house. Persons for or against him surely realize that he must succeed and we need to help him by doing our part. Until it’s clear what that part is, we’re stuck with hope for lack of an alternative. How dare this gigantic wind bag hope he fails?
Oh yeah? Mr. Rush Limbaugh -I hope you fail.
I hope you fail to enamor “conservatives” and anger “liberals.” I hope your divisive words and incessant blubbering about right and left choke you around your 42 inch neck. I’m not falling for it anymore. Ideas aren’t the property of two sides or two parties. I have conservative ideas and liberal ideas and as far as I know this makes me a person with ideas in my noodle. This does not automatically enroll me in some idiot mob mentality club with a newsletter, party affiliation certificate and at least one radio show. I’m not a Republican and I’m not a Democrat. I am a human being thank you very much. I hope Obama succeeds because when he succeeds, I do too.
Love him or hate him, Obama is the President of the United States. He has the worst temp job in the history of mankind and has four short years to work on complicated, unbearable problems. It took me longer than that to graduate from college.
I also take great comfort in knowing that it impossible to fuck things up worse than the man who gave us the last eight years. That’s a huge bonus.
Rush Limbaugh gets paid to agitate and seduce in the same way liberal personalities irritate and cajole. Both sides are equal opportunity bullshitters and none of it is helpful. We do not have the luxury of time to hope anything or anyone with a solution fails. Ideas aren’t personal property and I say “let the best idea win.” The “party” I’m with has nothing to do with it. And don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what Mark Twain said about political parties (**Warning: Mark Twain knows everything and failure to agree with this fact will get you kicked out of my house after I mace you in your pie hole) :
Look at the tyranny of party--at what is called party allegiance, party loyalty--a snare invented by designing men for selfish purposes--and which turns voters into chattles, slaves, rabbits, and all the while their masters, and they themselves are shouting rubbish about liberty, independence, freedom of opinion, freedom of speech, honestly unconscious of the fantastic contradiction; and forgetting or ignoring that their fathers and the churches shouted the same blasphemies a generation earlier when they were closing their doors against the hunted slave, beating his handful of humane defenders with Bible texts and billies, and pocketing the insults and licking the shoes of his Southern master.
- "The Character of Man," Mark Twain's Autobiography
Memo to Limbaugh:
Right and left is the new “back there.” Time to get hip Rushy! It’s a new day and a different time. Last Tuesday Obama put his hand on Lincoln’s bible and took our oath. As you recall, Lincoln didn’t appreciate slavery and dreamed of creating a country without it. Where Obama and that bible intersected was a moment of spectacular grace and American pride that I only thank God I lived to acknowledge and witness.
If that’s failure~ bring it on.

now, I was excited for Tuesday and cheered. but i will tell you like i told my coworker who is anti-obama: it's not so much that i'm FOR obama so much as i'm so ginormously AGAINST bush. i'm not a big crazed supporter of the guy stepping in so much as i'm a big crazed fan of getting the old guy OUT. does that make sense?
now, my political views are neither here nor there anymore. we have a new President chosen by teh majority and we have a new Commander in Chief. as someone from a military family i can accept that. just as if i got a new boss --- i may not be 100% on board with my new boss yet but they ARE my boss and as such i support them adn their decisions and will follow their rules. unless i wish to go to a new 'company' (read: country). which i don't. i think most americans who didn't vote for our new President need to suck it up and support and unite b/c we need to in this day and time. he's what we got --- let's make the best of it. ya know?
*smooches*
fully to spare you the migraine
Re: fully to spare you the migraine
And as much as I was against Obama being in the White House, I certainly do NOT want him to fail. He's been elected, he's there, there's nothing anyone can do about it but accept it and hope that he can fulfill at least some of the promises he's made. I want him to be able to succeed because his success means things will be better for all of us.
Lincoln may have despised slavery, but he also felt that blacks were lower than whites and didn't deserve the same privileges. It was just the mindset of the time. Just like when the whites floated over from across the pond and tried to exterminate Native Americans. We've come a long way, but we're still not there yet, not completely.
Which is why Tuesday was a big deal.
I wonder if we squirt some Preparation-H on Rush's head he'll just melt away?
I have spent the last eight years loathing the administration in power and waiting for a new and brighter day. However, in all that time, I never, *never* hoped that the President would fail. On the contrary, I continually prayed that he would surprise me and do something intelligent. I realized that because everything he did had a consequence for me, his success mattered a great deal. Why do others not get that simple formula?
BAH!But what else can we do?
It infuriates me to hear people say bring on the miracles. Lets see what you can do,,etc. Good God he walked into a huge screwup to clean up. Give him a few breaths first. Go Obama Go!
I wish President Obama the best, I would love to see him hailed as one of the greatest presidents of our time. But starting out with Gitmo? Ummm...strike one.
What an interesting transcript. The man who "has shaped Conservatives for 20 years" didn't actually have a single fact or stat to support his pompous position.
Contrary to the Limbaugh opinion, I don't just admire Obama because of how he speaks (though granted, having a President with mastery of the English language is wonderful and will be a HUGE asset!). I like him because he says what I believe. All Americans should remain a bit skeptical as this encourages accountability. But this country is in desperate need of hope. Who is he to take that away? And yes, what a selfish bastard to hope any president fails, especially at such a critical time for our country.
How dare he claim "the victims" are standing by waiting for things to get better?! How dare he infer "the victims" are lazy?! As someone who busts her ass 16 hours a day to fix her situation that has been greatly worsened by the former administration and who actively found time in the last 8 hours of her days to research and choose to vote for a president who might make things better for the whole nation, as a daughter of parents who went from great affluence to complete bankruptcy, thanks to policies set by the former the administration, as a child who willingly faces excommunication from her family for the belief that the Conservative agenda might not have the good of the entire nation at heart, I find his words ignorant, pompous, and despicable.
The lazy victims must not be so lazy after all when we are, in fact, the ones who put Obama in office.
And Lesa's cookies with cranberries and chocolate chips are still on my mind from your post yesterday GAH!
The idiots are the people listenting to him as anything more than the clown he is playing.
and to magsmom: Yes, exactly this. Rush knows what his audience wants to hear and he's providing it, for a big honking paycheck. Crazy like a fox.
Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.
Hope Rush fails? Rush IS fail. Epic fail.
Thanks for the Twain quote. It echoes some of the things said by President Washington in his farewell address.
You know... If Limbaugh wants Obama to fail, then that must mean he wants the rest of us to fail. Because we're all working for change for a better future for ourselves and our posterity. Thus, Limbaugh wants the American people to fail to have hope and a better life.
Unfortunately, he has underestimated the driving power of hope. We will succeed, are already succeeding. Limbaugh may not realize it, but he's actually committed epic fail, because I know I'm not the only one who's gonna see he basically said he wants the American people to fail when he said he wants our President to fail.
That's what made me write this today - I just can't understand that point of view.
I suppose for some folks, they'd rather feel "right" or correct than get anything done. Arrogant when you think about it.
Secondly, thanks for the link, it's good to know what people are going on about.
And thirdly, my commentary on the affair is here. Thanks for the inspiration.
"What I’m afraid of is that what Obama did with this executive order is actually make it easier for the media to go get Bush documents. Because you know Pelosi and some of the guys over in congress are talking about war crimes trials and charges and so forth. […]
What I’m afraid of is what Obama’s done here is made the gathering of the information for this kind of stuff– This is not American. This is not America. This is not what America does. We don’t– This is Banana Republic kind of stuff."
I don't think Limbaugh even understands what kind of country the US aspires to be.
All I can really add is my memories of how some conservatives used to accuse liberals of not wanting Bush to succeed in Iraq because they didn't want to admit Bush was doing the right thing. And I certainly heard some Republicans complain just after the 2000 election of liberals declaring Bush a failure before he had a chance to do anything. "C'mon, give the guy a chance!"
Of course, in retrospect the liberals were dead right.
Even so, it's just the usual opposition rhetoric to me -- and Rush trying to draw more attention to himself.
When Bush was President and I dared to criticize him amongst conservatives, I was told that it was wrong and that I must respect the office. It's funny how so few on the right are following their own edict now.
No matter who you voted for, it is supremely stupid to wish failure on an American President.
As much as I disagreed with Bush's actions, I always hoped he would somehow make a correct decision or do something to help the country. I didn't want him to fail.
After eight years of failure, why would you want more?
i was so angry when i read what he said...wasn't he the one telling us speaking out against Bush should be treason?
Pretty much. I am a big spewer for sure LOL!
