Peter Parker Picked a Peck of Pickled Bloggers

I had an amusing tale planned for today which I kicked to the curb until tomorrow because last night I received a horrifying alert that needs our time and attention. My tomfoolery can wait.

While Chances the Wonder Yorkie spends his days in a perpetual destruction derby of my home and good graces whilst snacking on jerky treats and sleeping on a canine Sleep Number bed with three other dog friends dreaming up new ways to be a jackass, there are animals living in hell. There are dogs living in a perpetual destruction derby of their bodies and souls. Evil is real.

Kindness and generosity are real too.

There is a case of a Peter Parker the dog, used for fighting bait, who is presently in the middle of rehab. He is in the care of Mary, known to me and my dear friend Ellyn Boone (CEO of Paws for Love). I spoke to Mary last night and while is story is grim, I think we can all give something towards a happy ending~ be it a prayer for him, a donation (pledge link below), a blessing for Mary sent through the sky, a link on your blog or a cut and paste of this story to forward to rich friends…. or simple email of encouragement. I will follow this case, report on his progress and cover the day Peter finds a permanent home. Today however, Peter needs our help.

Here is Peter Parker’s story as told by Mary:

Peter Parker is a year and half old chocolate lab.

I was called in at a shelter up in Ukiah Calif. they had a transfer of a young dog to Animal Control , first 2 weeks he spent curled up in a ball in the back of his kennel, Parker would barely eat, and when approached he would charge the kennel. dogs and people, but most of the time he would curl up in a ball and just shake, there were caring people there who called me and knew I turn dogs around. I am a rescue but also dog trainer, I call them garbage dogs, no one else will take them, they are usually put down, unable to even temp test, this is a caring shelter and saw something in those eyes. suffering.

I went up to evaluate him, within 3 mins I knew he was a great dog, you see he was leaning on my leg with a growly looking face, as the director asked me if I was even willing to take him home to test him, I knew I wasn’t walking out the door without him, getting Parker home, I couldn’t get him out of the carrier I transported him in, we carried it in the kennel, I gave him breathing room and opened the door, and went and sat down. well as scared as he was shaking we all cried, thin and frightened he did come to me. it was hard for him, he was scared to even go outside, hiding under our truck , I could tell some terrible things had happened to this dog. But under that I saw a shining star of personality, yes even under all that.
In the weeks to come Parker felt more comfortable with me and his surroundings, took weeks to get him to be ok with men dogs always tell there story eventually if you have them long enough, I emailed the shelter and told them I had a very adoptable dog, he would stay with me, I would put him through my rescue.

In the time Parker has been here he has become the most joyous dog I have ever seen , he has bloomed into a dog that would take away any of life’s worry when your with him, he is so happy to be alive and cared for it doesn’t matter what’s happened in my day, being with him makes everything I do worth while, he brings that much joy. He can actually jump so high he has time to wiggle mid air, everyone here will miss peter parker, but peter deserves his forever home

This is Peter Parkers Need, in evaluating Poor Peter we found out he was used for a bait dog, there is no other explanation, he is very young dog, he had injuries to hind leg which I got x-ray for, he could barely stand on it, he had chain marks around his neck, he also had probably 40 bite wounds around his head and backs of his legs, hair had grown back white where the scars are, thus him curled up in a ball shaking, not trusting anyone, problems with men, and other dogs, but he is so young and forgiving, if he knows the dog he wants to play, and tries to.

Upon the evaluation of my vet, he also thinks he was used for bait, he was fixed, and had shots, I told my vet he shook his head a lot, I thought earmites , ear infection. Upon his evaluation, this is what Peter needs and what we found out.

Peter had such a severe attack to his right ear so much scar tissue has built up it is closed off, there is probably debris down in the ear canal, thus causing him to shake his head, he will always be deaf in that ear, but will open it up enough to clean it out, and deal with any infection, this is a special laser surgery that will cost around $2,000.00 Peter cannot be adopted out until I deal with this, I want to insure this is taken care of. My promise to him is good health and a better life. He is one of the most amazing dogs I have ever taken in, he also shook in fear the most I have ever seen, the most in pain, and I had Peter on pain meds for his back leg injury which has healed on his own. But I cannot deal with his ears on my own, I donate my time to turning these dogs around that would on any normal day be put down.

Peter Parkers favorite thing to do is play hide and seek with me, he loves to run circles around me, I want to give him a life time of that joy with someone who would be interested in adopting Peter after his ear is done. He can make anyone’s bad day go away, I want to take away any bad days he will have again, starting with his ear, its getting worse the shaking , it will need to be dealt with soon.

You can email for updates on Peter Parker, I also have other pictures, we live in Santa Rosa, Ca. Or you can contact me
